The sound came from the Codger, but it was just the basic hoo-h'hoo-hoo-hoo you hear on all the online sites, such as Cornell's allaboutbirds.org, and in the various bird ID software packages.randomtruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01941027847362672057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-25750401420474488182011-06-12T09:11:34.853-07:002011-06-12T09:11:34.853-07:00Some nice catch and great picture, waht sound are ...Some nice catch and great picture, waht sound are you using to attract the GHO? would you share it? this what I have shot lately

http://dlc-photography.smugmug.com/Animals/Owl/17006307_q3wx8Q#1307959616_mzCzcbB-A-LB

DenisDenishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09499841043609075020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-84009150643052013392011-06-03T17:30:47.949-07:002011-06-03T17:30:47.949-07:00John - dr_f has it spot on. As a researcher or naturalist, we definitely don't want to do anything that impacts animal behavior repeatably for any length of time - be that via sound, scent or sight.

Short term surprises are generally fine though, as they often stimulate curiosity and are quickly forgotten.

But repeated and ongoing stimuli can definitely impact behavior. Feeding stations and electric fences are good examples.

That's also why they have to ban the callers at the birding hotspots - not because a call here and there is bad, but, with the density of visiting birders, the callers would be used so often at those locations that the birds in the area would definitely be impacted/changed by their constant use.randomtruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01941027847362672057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-67960846614443741582011-06-03T15:37:58.877-07:002011-06-03T15:37:58.877-07:00Hey RT. I have have cables and sensitive equipment gnawed and ruined by rodents. John, I don't think one night of iPhone calling would be harmful to the owl. However, generally the shorter the duration of disturbance the better.dr_fiehlgoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02598656398224845556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-88400746122115309982011-06-03T14:03:56.778-07:002011-06-03T14:03:56.778-07:00I dont want to belittle the fascinating photos, an...I dont want to belittle the fascinating photos, and behavior you have captured, but I question the ethics of it. This incessant calling from the iphone is very disturbing to the territorial owls.
Many birding hotspots like Madera Canyon in Az. Dont allow the use of playback bird calls because it interrupts the bird's breeding cycles etc. What do you think about the topic?johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05008523039059312800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-32657889190514555642011-06-02T10:08:18.097-07:002011-06-02T10:08:18.097-07:00he was SO not amused!!!he was SO not amused!!!TexWisGirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15510099344729038541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-43445816034281290502011-06-02T10:03:34.874-07:002011-06-02T10:03:34.874-07:00Just SUPER, RT!
