You'd need to eat the newt or get it into a cut or rub an eye, so as long as you wash your hands after touching one, it's not a problem. But you do need to be careful. Leslie Anthony tells a great story in his book Snakebit about going blind in one eye for 3 days after he was holding a newt and rubbed his eye before washing up properly.randomtruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01941027847362672057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-50994545108725122192020-02-16T19:16:52.406-08:002020-02-16T19:16:52.406-08:00loved all the scientific details and exhuberance f...loved all the scientific details and exhuberance for the species, I was fascinated by their uniqueness at a sierra nevada nature preserve, thanks for the more thorough information and documentation, still curious to know what is hype versus reality about their toxicity...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06304682434362800301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-40137348801756099852020-02-16T19:10:27.888-08:002020-02-16T19:10:27.888-08:00I was informed by a naturalist not to touch these ...I was informed by a naturalist not to touch these newts as they secreted a neurotoxin from their skin (signaled by their coloring) and I see you holding them without gloved hands, did you experience any adverse effects?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06304682434362800301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4533740979429003976.post-64721786422447463212014-03-08T06:39:11.450-08:002014-03-08T06:39:11.450-08:00Ha!
